Public Course

Public Access for Barristers

This course is designed to equip barristers undertaking public access work and is suitable for barristers in independent practice and Chambers’ administrative staff. The course satisfies the Bar Standard Board’s training requirements and is accredited for CPD.

To carry out public access work, a barrister must have:

  • Practised for a total of three years following completion of pupillage 
  • Attended the College of Law accredited training course 
  • Ensured that any necessary notification to top-up insurance has been given

The first two requirements may be waived by the Bar Council if the applicant is a former solicitor or they can demonstrate experience in an environment where public access to the client has been common.
