Public Access for Barristers

This course is designed to equip barristers undertaking public access work. It’s suitable for barristers in independent practice and Chambers’ administrative staff and it satisfies the Bar Standard Board’s training requirements.

Outline timetable 

To carry out public access work, a barrister must have:

  • Practised for at least three years in total after pupillage
  • Attended the College of Law accredited training course
  • Secured top-up insurance.

The first two conditions may be waived if the applicant is a former solicitor or they have experience in an environment where public access to the client is common.
