Your PSC
The Professional Skills Course (PSC) is the final, compulsory part of your training before you qualify as a solicitor. So it’s important to select the right PSC with electives and core modules tailored to your area of interest. We’re the leading national provider of this crucial part of your professional development.
The PSC is made up of three compulsory core modules and a programme of elective modules, all totalling 12 days (72 hours) of training.
Core modules
Advocacy and Communication Skills (3 days)
Client Care and Professional Standards (2 days)*
Financial and Business Skills (3 days)
These modules can be taken as an eight-day intensive ‘fast-track’ programme or individually across a wider range of dates.
*We offer this course with three different career routes and as two separate days of training. Please note that you cannot take Day 2 of Client Care and Professional Standards during the first six months of your training contract.
Elective modules
PSC elective modules allow you to specialise in particular areas of law.
Most of our electives last for one day (six hours), meaning you’ll need to choose a total of four days of electives to reach the 24 hours required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
It’s recommended that you take your electives after completing the core modules as they contain elements of client care or advocacy and assume a level of understanding of these core topics.
Trainees who would like to follow a career in litigation have the option of taking Higher Rights of Audience training in lieu of their PSC electives.
Local Government PSC
The College offers a PSC programme specifically designed to meet the needs of trainees working in local government. Developed in association with Solicitors in Local Government (SLG), this two-year programme runs in conjunction with the Local Government Weekend School - the major training and networking event for qualified local government lawyers. Please visit our Local Government PSC web pages for more information.

"The course was entertaining, informative, engaging. The tutor was interested in the subject matter, and understands trainee experiences so geared the teaching accordingly".
