Putting learning into practice
We don’t just aim to help you secure pupillage, we fully prepare you for working life as a barrister. Our BPTC has been designed to give you as many opportunities as possible to hone your essential advocacy skills and put what you learn into practice through an unrivalled and intensive training programme.
Practitioner evenings
These evenings allow you to demonstrate your advocacy skills in front of practising barristers and receive feedback.
Mock trials
You’ll participate in mock trials staged in front of sitting judges and senior barristers. It’s a skill in which we have a particularly strong track record, having won many student mock trial competitions between BPTC providers.
Court visits
We arrange visits to the High Court, Magistrates’ Courts and the Crown Court. You’ll also arrange your own visits to other courts that reflect your areas of interest.
Mooting, negotiating and advocacy
Our teams have successfully competed in these skills at a national and international level. Our London advocacy competition, sponsored by 25 Bedford Row, gives students an opportunity to make an impression on this prestigious set.
Pro Bono
You’ll have an opportunity to take part in our award-winning pro bono programme which could involve advising or representing clients from interview through to hearing. This could include Leasehold Valuation, Immigration and Asylum or Employment and Social Security Appeals Tribunals or becoming a panel member with the Youth Offending Service.
Expert guidance and support
Our tutors are freely available to offer advice and support in person outside class, as well as by e-mail or telephone.
Fast-track LL.M and LL.B
By completing the BPTC with the College you’ll earn 60 Masters level credits towards our LL.M Masters of Law degrees. You only need to complete three further modules and a final assignment to achieve the full LL.M.
And if you’ve successfully completed our GDL and pass the BPTC at the College, you’ll graduate with an LL.B law degree – a clear demonstration of your abilities that will enhance your CV.
These additional qualifications from the College are a clear endorsement of the high quality of our courses.
