Award-winning pro bono

To really bring your learning to life we run the largest and most varied legal pro bono programme in the UK, offering you the opportunity to put your skills into practice with real clients.

In recognition of our work, we've won several major pro bono awards, including the Attorney General's Best Individual Student and Best New Pro Bono Project Awards 2009.

Bringing the law to life

Here are just some of the opportunities on offer at our centres:

Streetlaw programme

Pioneered by The College of Law in partnership with the Citizenship Foundation and top law firm Eversheds, the Streetlaw programme raises legal awareness in communities and is designed with GDL students in mind.

Legal advice centres

We run advice centres at our locations, answering legal enquiries from the general public.  This casework programme gives you valuable first-hand experience of client relationships, legal research and drafting - particularly useful for LPC students.

Pro bono placements

The experience of working with real clients on a pro bono placement is invaluable.  We help LPC students obtain placements in not-for-profit organisations to provide members of the public with free legal advice and representation.

Tribunal representation

Aimed at BPTC students, this involves representing real clients before selected tribunals, from interview through to hearing.

“The work placements that I have done through the college have provided invaluable experience. They gave me the opportunity to work directly with clients and put my skills that I was learning on the course into practice. Any work experience/ pro-bono work also provides an opportunity to raise questions at interviews or give a topic to discuss.”
