LL.M in Professional Legal Practice - course content and assessment
To achieve our LL.M in Professional Legal Practice you need to successfully complete six of the following modules plus an assignment.
Modules
College of Law LPC or BPTC graduates qualifying for prior credit towards the LL.M in Professional Legal Practice only need to complete three modules from the above list and an assignment to achieve the full LL.M.
Assignment
You need to complete a 15,000-word assignment under the supervision of a College tutor. They will help you choose a suitable subject, which could include a topical legal matter, a current case being handled by your firm or chambers, or a new area you would like to explore.
Assignments can start once you have satisfactorily completed the modules. Assignments start in January or July each year and six months is allowed for their completion.
Specialist qualifications
If you choose modules in similar areas of practice and an assignment in the same field, we will be able to make specialist LL.M awards. For example, if you choose to specialise in international commercial law, your Masters degree will be classified ‘LL.M in Professional Legal Practice (International Commercial)’. We can help you choose modules that will contribute to the named specialised degree that you want.
Assessment
You will need to achieve a minimum pass mark of 50% on all study modules and the assignment. If you pass all modules and receive a mark of 70% or more on your assignment, your LL.M will be awarded with ‘Distinction’.
The final unit of each supervised online module is a 3,000 to 5,000-word assessment. Each blended learning module will be assessed by an unseen 2.5 hour examination at the College centre where you received your face-to-face tuition.
