1. W201 Manual 2 Unit 7 Activity 4

The introduction to this Activity states that the Human Rights Act incorporated, amongst others, Articles 1 and 2 of the Sixth Protocol (relating to the abolition of the death penalty). This is incorrect as these Articles were not incorporated; the correct Article relating to the abolition of the death penalty which was incorporated is in fact Article 1 of the Thirteenth Protocol.

Accordingly, in the comment on p.17 the reference to Protocol 6, Articles 1 and 2 should be deleted and replaced by:

Protocol 13

1  Abolition of death penalty.

2. Manual 1 Units 3 & 4, Page 139, Paragraph 1.1

Although the third bullet point correctly refers to the European Council, the first and second bullet points should refer instead to the Council of the European Union.

As you may be aware from your previous study of EU law, the Council of the European Union and the European Council are (despite their similar names) separate bodies.  Essentially, the Council of the European Union consists of a representative from each EU Member State at ministerial level and has a rotating presidency held by each Member State for a period of six months.  Specific membership of this body varies according to the subject-matter of its meetings: if, for example, the subject-matter is agriculture, the representatives will be the agriculture ministers of the Member States.  The European Council consists principally of the Heads of States or Government of the Member States and typically meets around four times per year.  Its meetings are chaired by the President of the European Council.
