1. W200 Unit 1: Para 6.2.2

(i) Jonathan Sumption QC was sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice on 11 January 2012. He is the first Supreme Court Justice to be appointed directly from the Bar.

(ii) The following appointments as Justices of the Supreme Court were announced on 20 December 2012:

  • Lord Reed - following the death of the Rt Hon Lord Rodger of Earlsferry. Lord Reed is a Scottish judge, as was Lord Rodger He will be sworn in on 6 Feb 2012.
  • Lord Justice Carnwath, Senior President of Tribunals. He will take office upon the retirement of  Lord Brown of Eaton-under-Heywood in April 2012
