Managing Public Access Work

What?

Barristers have been able to accept instructions direct from the public since July 2004. The College of Law has delivered the Public Access for Barristers course since 2005 and is the market leader. Over 2,000 barristers and administrative staff have successfully completed the course, enhancing their own and their chamber’s ability to develop new direct access business.

The concept of a Public Access course dedicated to the needs of clerks and other chambers administrative staff was pioneered by The College of Law and designed by Jonathan Maskew, working with the College's market-leading team of Public Access trainers. Jonathan, who is Chambers Director at Lincoln House Chambers in Manchester and a Director of Footsteps Management Solutions, personally delivers the course, and delegates benefit from his hands-on knowledge of real practical issues in the managing of Public Access work.

This half-day course is designed specifically to give clerks, practice managers, marketing and administrative staff the essential knowledge to make direct access to clients work for their barristers and chambers. The course will clearly explain the scope of the Public Access rules and deal with real issues faced by the administrative and support staff in the management of such instructions.

Who?

The course is for clerks, practice managers, marketing and other administrative staff in chambers who are involved with developing new business and taking instructions directly from the public.

Why?

There is pressure on chambers to change and consider all possible opportunities to introduce new work streams. Those involved in business development, in-particular clerks and practice managers, have realised there is a real need for change.

How?

Our half-day Managing Public Access Work course is delivered via face-to-face tuition.
