Legal Support Skills
Support staff in the legal profession operate in a specialist working environment and face unique challenges. They are fundamental to legal work and, as the profession changes, are increasingly involved in key day-to-day legal tasks.
Our legal support skills course - Working in a Law Firm - is an innovative training programme designed by The College of Law in conjunction with leading law firms. It’s specifically designed to provide support staff with the knowledge they need to meet the daily challenges of their role. The course is ideal for those new to the legal environment.
Convenient desktop tuition
Working in a Law Firm is a user-friendly, CD-based interactive training course that can run from any desktop PC. Support staff can train individually, at their own pace and convenience.
Smarter working
Our legal support skills training will help support staff realise their full potential and make them better equipped to provide effective support. Increased productivity and better staff utilisation means your fee-earners can focus on higher value chargeable work, with reduced risk for the firm.
Flexible, modular training
A flexible and modular course, Working in a Law Firm features interactive exercises and a resources area, where participants can download notes, link to useful information or access the comprehensive glossary, which explains unfamiliar terms and phrases. To check users’ understanding and progress, there is an optional online test based on all the modules. If completed successfully, participants are awarded a certificate.
Key course benefits
- Equips staff to deal with many of the basic tasks that take up hours of fee earning time
- Reduces the risks that untrained and ill-informed support staff can bring to the business
- Motivates and enthuses support staff
- Allows staff to train at their own pace, in the office or at their own convenience.
How it works
Participants work their way through each of the interactive modules in turn. Case studies are used where appropriate, enabling participants to see what they have learnt in the context of a fictional client scenario.
As the session is modular, it doesn’t have to be completed in one go. It’s been designed to track where participants are in each module, so they’re free to exit whenever they like. And when they log back in, they’re automatically taken back to the same place. There is a “Help” section at the top of each screen to assist in navigation.
The course can be completed in stages, and in the office, so there’s no need for your support staff to attend off-site training.
