Synopsis - Programme 1385, 8 August 2008
Business: Cartels
Cartels are a very real threat to the business community and consumers. The OFT’s investigations into, and ultimate destruction of, cartels is one of its highest priorities. It has been assisted in its aim by the Enterprise Act 2002 which introduced a criminal sanction for individuals dealing in cartels. This programme looks at the policy behind cartels and dawn raids. It then looks at the Marine Hose case – the OFT’s inaugural prosecution of three individuals for cartel activity and, further, provides some invaluable practical advice.

Synopsis - Programme 1386, 8 August 2008
Employment: Consultation & Redundancy Alternatives
This programme provides an update on recent case law in the redundancy arena, focusing on three main issues: the obligation to consult on collective redundancies (UK Coal Mining Ltd v National Union of Mineworkers (Northumberland Area) and another (2007)); mobility clauses as an alternative to redundancy (Home Office v Evans (2008)); and the dangers of firing and rehiring employees (Harris v Ralph Martindale & Co Ltd (2007)) as a further alternative to a straightforward redundancy.
