Graduate Diploma in Law
Our Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) is uniquely designed. We’ve listened carefully to the requirements of law firms and legal employers, who tell us how important the GDL is in providing future trainees with commercial awareness and vocational skills at the very beginning of their legal training.
As a result, our GDL is about more than just academic learning, it’s all about embedding best commercial practice in trainees from the start.
Our GDL: key facts
- Students are encouraged to think like practising lawyers throughout the course, with essential legal learning delivered in a practical and professional context
- Problem-based learning provides insight into real client scenarios and teaches students to identify, research and present issues accurately and succinctly
- An optimum mix of academic law and professional training that includes a thorough grounding in the foundation subjects
- Incorporates commercial awareness training to develop business acumen and an understanding of corporate law
- All tutors are qualified lawyers, so students receive a personal and hands-on perspective of the law in practice
Unique preparing for practice module
The ‘preparing for practice’ module is unique to our GDL. It features a range of hands-on, practice-related activities designed to give students a real understanding of what it’s like to work with clients in legal practice. This includes pro bono work, mooting, problem-based learning, commercial awareness training, independent research and a dissertation on a chosen specialist area of law.
