Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with LNTV

The Solicitors Regulation Authority requires that all solicitors admitted to the Roll and registered European lawyers undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The CPD year runs from 1 November to 31 October. Briefly, the requirements are as follows:

  • Newly qualified solicitors/registered European lawyers
One hour for each complete month worked from the date of admission/registration to 31 October. Those admitted on 1 November will go straight into their first CPD year.

  • All solicitors/registered European lawyers in their first CPD year and in each subsequent year: 16 hours

The Solicitors Regulation Authority CPD rules state that at least 25% of the CPD requirement must be met by participating in accredited courses.

Full details of the Solicitors Regulation Authority requirements are detailed on their website www.sra.org.uk or by phoning 0870 606 2555.

CPD with LNTV

By using LNTV, you can gain up to 100% of your annual CPD hours.

  • Individual viewing
Up to 75% of the requirement can be obtained by viewing LNTV training programmes and reading the accompanying notes in the LNTV Times.

  • Individual viewing + ReView
Similarly, up to 75% of the requirement can be obtained through individual viewing and then answering the multiple choice questions provided through LNTV ReView Q&As.

If you are using LNTV as an individual, this is our recommended method of undertaking your training.

  • LNTV discussion groups by authorised providers
100% of the annual requirement can be met by participating in LNTV discussion sessions offered by authorised providers. Your firm can become authorised by the SRA very simply (see details below) so that you can then run your own viewing sessions, followed by a discussion led by a member of the firm.

  • LNTV Discussion Groups
If your firm is not an authorised provider, you can earn 75% of the annual requirement by watching and discussing the programme with one or more colleagues.

About ReView

ReView is an extra service available to LNTV subscribers.  By completing multiple choice questions, ReView users can test that they fully understand the key points in the programme. Answer sheets are then faxed to LNTV for marking and CPD accreditation. There is a small additional charge for this service.

The ReView scheme is particularly suited to sole practitioners and other solicitors who are unable to take part in group discussions on a regular basis.

How do I claim my CPD credit for LNTV discussion sessions?

Enter details of the title of the DVD training pack watched, the date of your session and the time spent viewing and discussing the programme in your CPD Record card or training record, along with any other comments.

Other ways to gain CPD with LNTV

  • Preparing LNTV discussion sessions
If you prepare for an LNTV training session by researching and gathering material, or lead the discussion on the day, you can use the time you spend towards your CPD requirement. If the training activity is within an authorised firm it can be counted towards the 'accredited' 25% of your annual total.

  • Contributing to LNTV programmes
At LNTV we use a whole range of leading experts in different legal fields to add their expert opinion to our programmes. Time spent participating in one of our programmes can be counted towards up to 75% of your training requirement.
