Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test
(QLTT)

If you want to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales through the QLTT, and don’t yet have your Certificate of Eligibility, you only have until 1 September 2010 to get your application into the SRA. So don’t delay – time is running out.

Being qualified in multiple jurisdictions greatly increases the marketability of individual lawyers and the capability of their firms. The Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and enables international lawyers, Scottish solicitors and barristers of England and Wales to practise as solicitors in England and Wales.

The College of Law is the only accredited training provider to offer six annual QLTT sittings in London. We also offer two annual sittings in Mumbai, New Delhi, Sydney and Hong Kong.

We are the leading provider of legal education in the UK, and have been at the forefront of QLTT delivery since 1997.

Clifford Chance LLP offers two scholarships a year for Indian solicitors or advocates to undertake the QLTT and re-qualify as English lawyers. For more information, see ‘Related items’ below.

SRA review of QLTT

The SRA has now published proposed changes to the QLTT system. The new regulations have been approved by the Legal Services Board and are due to be introduced in September 2010.

You should not let this deter you from registering to do the QLTT, as there will be a commitment to ensure that students who have started on the current system can complete their qualification under those regulations.

If you still have a valid Certificate of Eligibility, but have not yet completed all elements of the QLTT, you are advised to book any additional training/assessments as soon as possible.
