QLTT course information

The QLTT covers four subject areas known as 'heads'.

Head I - Property                                                       

A three and a half hour exam consisting 30 minutes reading time followed by a 3 hour written exam covering Conveyancing & Wills and Probate & Administration.                              

The pass mark is 50%.

Head II – Litigation

A three and a half hour exam consisting 30 minutes reading time followed by a 3 hour written exam divided into 2 parts : Civil and Criminal. Only one part should be attempted. Each part of the question paper will test both evidence and procedure. 

The pass mark is 50%. No less than 15% of the marks for the Criminal part will be attributable to evidence issues.

Head III - Professional Conduct & Accounts

A three-hour written test, divided into two parts:
(i) Accounts (40%) and (ii) Financial Services, Professional Conduct & Money Laundering (60%).    

The overall pass mark is 50%. In addition, at least 50% of the available marks must be obtained in both the Accounts section and the Financial Services/Professional Conduct/Money Laundering section of the paper.

Head IV - Principles of Common Law

An oral test of the principles of Common Law and competence in the English language, covering the English Legal System and Contract and Tort.

It covers four different areas of the syllabus. Candidates must prepare one part in more detail (the Advance Topic). They will be notified which topic to prepare before the test.

The test includes a document, such as a law report, an extract from a law report or some statutory provision relating to the Advance Topic.

Candidates are asked questions on both the Advance Topic and the document.     

The pass mark is 50%.

*All written tests are open book – any books, documents and other written material can be taken into the exam.

  • The test for Head IV is an oral exam
  • Distance learning materials are delivered to you by courier free of charge
  • Tuition fees include course material (a handout is provided for the revison session)
  • Tuition and revision sessions are optional
  • No VAT is payable on the above fees

The test for Head III in the Asia Pacific region is administered by The College of Law Alliance. This is a partnership between The Colleges of Law in England & Wales, Australia and New Zealand.

Please note that you need to hold a Certificate of Eligibility from The Solicitors Regulation Authority to sit the test. However the Certificate is not required to enroll for tuition and/or revision course(s).
