International Practice Diploma programme
Course Information
The International Practice Diploma Programme’s flexible distance learning format enables participants to study at their own pace and in any location.
Each diploma comprises:
- Distance learning manuals containing relevant law and practice, case studies, precedents and statutory extracts
- Study guide providing guidance on how to use the materials; helpful information sources; administration and tutor contacts; assessment information
- One formative assessment with the study pack
- A summative assessment at the end of each diploma. This must be completed and submitted by the given deadline
Each diploma runs for approximately six months, starting in January and July.
All study materials are in English.
Tutor Support
The College of Law’s tutor support system is available to all diploma participants. Specific subject questions can be e-mailed, faxed or posted. Tutors will answer them promptly.

Scholarship
A limited number of scholarships are available to participants requiring financial assistance. See the IBA website for further details: www.ibanet.org
Assessments
Each diploma includes a written assessment. A formative assessment can also be submitted. It is marked by the tutors and returned with their comments to help participants prepare for the summative assessment.
On passing the summative assessment, participants are awarded a Practice Diploma. All assessments are written in English and must be answered in English.
CPD Hours
For each diploma undertaken, Solicitors in England and Wales can claim up to 75% (12 hours) of their annual CPD requirement.
Eligibility
To be eligible for any of the Practice Diplomas, participants must fulfill one of the following conditions:
- A lawyer in private practice
- An in-house counsel
- A judge
- A teacher of law at undergraduate or post-graduate level
- Retired from any of the above positions
- A law graduate
Participants should also have competence in English to at least band 7.0 on the International Language Testing System (IELTS). For further information on IELTS please contact the British Council.
IBA
The IBA is a dual membership organisation. It comprises around 16,000 lawyers and over 190 Bar Associations and Law Societies. It works to influence the development of international legal reform and help shape the future of the legal profession.
IPDP participants do not have to be members of the IBA. But the IBA welcomes new members. For further details please contact the IBA:

Each diploma of the International Practice Diploma Programme costs £550. A 10% discount is applicable for second/subsequent bookings.
