CPD requirements for solicitors
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) requires that all solicitors admitted to the Roll and registered European lawyers must attend 16 hours of qualifying training each CPD year, which runs from 1 November to 31 October.
Newly qualified solicitors and registered European lawyers are required to attend one hour of qualifying training for each full month worked from the date of admission or registration through to 31 October. Those admitted on 1 November will go straight into their first CPD year.
For full details of the SRA requirements visit www.sra.org.uk or call 0870 606 2555.
CPD requirements for barristers
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) requires that all barristers undertake CPD training, and the CPD year runs from 1 January to 31 December.
In the first three years of practice, newly-qualified barristers must complete 45 hours of CPD, including at least nine hours of advocacy training and three hours of ethics (the ‘New
Practitioners’ Programme’). After three years of practice, barristers are required to undertake 12 hours of CPD a year (the ‘Established Practitioners’ Programme’).
