Chester
Careers

Benefiting from long standing, strong links with the local legal community, the Chester careers advisers could not be better placed to give you law careers advice.

The Chester team

The team in Chester has a vast amount of careers guidance experience and holds tremendous respect amongst legal firms, with many choosing to interview students at the Chester College.

One-to-one advice

The Chester Careers service is on hand to give one-to-one advice to all students and will assist you with anything from cv preparation to mock interviews. We will answer your queries, assist you in the office with access to our extensive databases and materials and provide individual appointments to support you in achieving your career goals.

Careers workshops and talks

We will offer you the opportunity to attend workshops to develop your skills in areas such as interviewing skills. By taking part in these constructive, interactive sessions you will be able to develop your skills and acquire the confidence to achieve your career aspirations.

The College arranges an enlightening programme of talks throughout the year which are open to all of our students. Whatever area of law interests you there will be talks from leading figures, offering you the opportunity to find out more and network with influential individuals in the legal community. If you are uncertain where you would like to work this is an excellent means of broadening your horizons and finding out about areas you may not have considered.

Mentoring

The College of Law runs a mentoring scheme College wide. The Chester Careers service has developed an outstanding scheme which many students have found extremely useful, giving them a means of direct communication with the local legal community. If on the scheme, you will be allocated a mentor from a local firm and they will be on hand to advise, assist with decisions and provide guidance whilst you are at the College.

Utilising this scheme will allow you to benefit from the experiences of qualified solicitors or barristers to assist you in your career preparation, gaining appropriate experience and offering guidance during the application process.

What our students had to say about us

Marie Bunch, GDL and LPC 07/09, had the following to say about the careers service at Chester.

‘It is outstanding in every way. It maintains close links to law firms, both local and national, organises an array of events to facilitate contact with firms and has an excellent library containing firm information, specifically past student survey reports on interviews and assessment days. They also take the time to listen to student's needs and career aspirations to make sure that the application process is as efficient as possible.’
