Sports and social
It’s not all work! We understand that extra-curricular activities provide a welcome break from studying, and at The College of Law Birmingham we support a wide range of student sport and social events.
Student Social Committee
At the beginning of each academic year students are invited to apply for positions on the Student Social Committee. This student led committee then devise, promote and organise a variety of social events for students throughout the year, supported in an advisory and administrative capacity by Student Services.
Examples of recent activities include:
- Winter Masquerade Ball held at the Aston Villa Stadium
- Bowling
- Charity Football Tournament
- Summer Ball – ‘A Night in Paris’
- Hawaiian Night (complete with limbo dancing competition!)
- Pub Quiz
- Carol Service
- Pub Crawl
- Karaoke night
- Visits to places of interest
Clubs and Societies
From mid October there will be a Club and Society folder at Student Services. If you have a particular hobby or interest, or enjoy a certain sport, you can start a club.
By listing your name and College email address along with details of your specified interest you will be able to link up with like-minded students. At the end of the month Student Services will email all students listed so that you can get in touch with one another and arrange to meet up throughout the year.
Previous societies have included;
- Theatre
- Running
- Football
- Hockey
- Snooker
- Rugby
- Islamic Society
- Christian Society
Staff vs Students Pub Quiz
Do you know your Shakespeare from your Socrates, your FA cup results from your famous quotes? If so then you might be in with a chance of stealing away the trophy from our reigning staff team in our extremely popular Staff vs Students pub quiz.
Each year teams of students pitch themselves against teams of College staff to see who really is the smartest of them all. (All in the name of good fun of course!)
Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society
At induction students will be invited to sign up as student members of the Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society (BTSS). The BTSS offers a mix of social, cultural, sporting and networking events for trainee solicitors, newly qualified solicitors, paralegals and GDL and LPC students across the West Midlands. We encourage our students to make the most of this fantastic opportunity to get actively involved in the local legal community at an early stage.
The cost of student membership is £15.00.
Prize Giving
Each year we celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at our prize giving ceremony, giving those students who have done particularly well in their exams an opportunity to celebrate with their family and friends and the tutors who taught them.
