What training do I need?

The first step on your career path now you’ve successfully completed your Legal Practice Course is the Professional Skills Course (PSC). This programme of training is an important final phase in your compulsory training before you qualify as a solicitor.

The PSC builds on the foundations of the Legal Practice Course, whether you studied with The College of Law or another provider, and provides important practical instruction which is crucial during your training contract. In order to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales, the PSC must be satisfactorily completed during the two-year training contract.

The content of the PSC is stipulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and is made up of three compulsory core modules, covering eight days, and four days of elective module training. You can choose which elective modules you study, meaning you can tailor your training to suit your interests.

It’s important to select the right PSC, with flexible core module training and a wide range of specialist electives tailored to your areas of interest and your future career path. The College of Law offers leading quality PSC teaching with a great choice of core courses, electives and locations. More information on our PSC.

We also offer a specialist Local Government PSC for trainees working in local authorities, and the option to replace your PSC electives with our renowned Higher Rights of Audience training for trainees planning to follow a career in litigation.
