8 June 2010: One of the First Graduates of College of Law’s Birmingham Centre is Made Law Firm Partner
A former student at The College of Law in Birmingham, who was part of its first intake when it opened nine years ago, has been promoted to partner at his Midlands law firm.
Carl Mifflin, aged 31, was among the first batch of students to complete their Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the Great Hampton Street centre, which opened in 2001. He has now been made partner at Berryman in Nottingham.
The College of Law is the leading provider of professional legal education and training in the UK and has trained many of its top lawyers.
Carl joined Berryman and its then new specialist Reorganisation & Recovery team in 2006 and was promoted to Associate just 12 months later. He now heads up the team.

He worked with team members to build its reputation, acting on both contentious and non-contentious corporate insolvency and bankruptcy instructions. The team today takes instructions from organisations across the UK, and has recently seen an increase in the number of instructions out of London in particular and from specialist Insolvency Practitioners, based both regionally and across the UK.
Bernardette Griffin, director of The College of Law in Birmingham, said: ''We are delighted that Carl has become a partner at such a young age. He was a student on The College of Law in Birmingham's first LPC intake in 2001 and, as an alumnus, has been very supportive of our initiatives. We are extremely proud of his achievements in the legal world to date and he is an excellent role model for all our students.''
This year Carl received individual recognition in The Legal 500 Directory - regarded as the largest and most in-depth survey of UK legal firms – which states that he ‘stands out for clients who value quick response times, coupled with accurate and appropriate advice’.
Carl said: “Promotion to partner is great recognition of my personal achievements and those of the team over the last few years. I am looking forward to working with the partners to achieve further and sustained growth, to continue building our reputation for legal excellence and good client service, while increasing the reputation of the Reorganisation & Recovery team.”
Berryman provides an extensive portfolio of legal services within four key areas: Business Services, Property & Construction, Insurance Services and Private Client. It employs over 130 people and has 18 partners.
